Classical Concerts in Versailles

Experience Les Arts Florissants live on October 6th

Les Arts Florissants, founded in 1979 by William Christie, is renowned for its performances of Baroque and early Classical music, specializing in French repertoire from the 17th and 18th centuries. The ensemble focuses on historically informed performance practice, utilizing period instruments and vocal styles to recreate the sound world of the era. Their interpretations are characterized by expressive phrasing, refined ornamentation, and a commitment to dramatic storytelling through music.

The concert will take place within the Chapelle Royale at the Palace of Versailles. Completed in 1710 during the reign of Louis XIV, the chapel served as the royal family’s private place of worship and a significant stage for ceremonial events. Architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart designed it in a distinctly French Baroque style, incorporating marble, gilded bronze, and elaborate sculptural details. It was intended to visually represent the power and majesty of the French monarchy and Catholic faith.

The chapel's acoustics are particularly noted for their resonance and clarity, making it an ideal venue for vocal and instrumental ensembles like Les Arts Florissants.
