The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra will perform at Barbican Hall in London on June 1st, 2027. The orchestra is renowned for its historically informed interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, with whom it has a deep historical connection – Bach served as the orchestra’s director for decades during his lifetime. Their performances emphasize clarity of texture, rhythmic vitality, and a striving for authenticity in performance practice. While encompassing a broad range of orchestral literature, the ensemble maintains a distinctive sound rooted in Central German traditions.

Barbican Hall, opened in 1982, is a prominent concert venue within the Barbican Centre, a Grade II listed modernist complex. The hall is celebrated for its acoustics which were significantly enhanced following renovations completed in 2021. Designed by Peter Rice and acoustician Rob Harris, the hall’s original design aimed to provide an intimate experience despite its substantial size (approximately 1,943 seats). It hosts a diverse program of classical music performances throughout the year and is the resident home of the London Symphony Orchestra alongside numerous visiting ensembles.
