Lakecia Benjamin is a contemporary jazz saxophonist and vocalist known for blending elements of jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop into a dynamic and energetic sound. Her work often features original compositions alongside reimagined interpretations of popular songs, showcasing her improvisational skills and powerful stage presence. She has collaborated with artists across genres, including Alicia Keys and Gary Clark Jr., and leads the band Soul Squad.

The Pocket is a relatively new, intimate performance venue located in New York City’s Lower East Side. Opened in 2023, it's designed specifically with sonic quality as a primary focus. The venue boasts a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound loudspeaker system and carefully considered acoustics intended to provide an exceptional listening experience for both performers and audience members. It’s quickly gained recognition within the music community for its commitment to high-fidelity audio reproduction and its support of diverse musical styles, particularly jazz, experimental music, and electronic genres. The space is intentionally smaller in capacity – holding around 150 people – fostering a close connection between artist and listener. It aims to replicate the experience of being ‘in the pocket’ with the music—a feeling of perfect synchronization and groove.
