Classical Concerts in Charleroi

Experience Koen Kessels live on October 10th

Koen Kessels is a Belgian composer and conductor known for works blending contemporary classical music with influences from jazz, minimalism, and electronic music. His compositions often feature intricate rhythmic structures and explore textural soundscapes, frequently incorporating extended techniques for both traditional and unconventional instruments. He’s garnered recognition for projects pushing the boundaries of orchestral writing and chamber music.

The Palais Des Beaux Arts De Charleroi (Charleroi Fine Arts Palace) is a significant cultural landmark in Belgium, inaugurated in 2003. Designed by architects Paul Robbrecht and Joan Rabell, the building stands on the site of the former Théâtre Royal de Charleroi, which was destroyed by fire in 1999. The Palais serves as a multidisciplinary arts center hosting opera, ballet, theatre, concerts – encompassing both classical and contemporary performances – as well as exhibitions. Its architecture is notable for its striking use of concrete and glass, creating a modern aesthetic while referencing the historical function of the location as a performance venue. The venue aims to be accessible to a wide audience and plays an important role in the cultural life of the Hainaut province. It has a capacity of approximately 900 seats in its main hall.
