Kirill Gerstein, a Russian-American pianist renowned for his intellectually probing and technically brilliant performances, will appear at Symphony Hall in Boston on October 8, 2026. His repertoire is exceptionally broad, encompassing works from the core classical and Romantic periods alongside a significant focus on 20th and 21st-century composers – often including lesser-known or challenging pieces. He is particularly noted for his interpretations of composers like Rachmaninoff, Liszt, and Messiaen, frequently praised for their clarity and depth.

Symphony Hall, completed in 1900, is considered one of the most acoustically perfect concert venues in the world. Designed by McKim, Mead & White, it serves as the home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Its exceptional acoustics stem from a number of factors including its “shoebox” shape, relatively narrow width, and use of specific materials during construction – notably the lack of parallel surfaces internally. The hall was built rapidly, taking just thirteen months to complete, and quickly gained international recognition for its sound quality; numerous conductors and musicians have consistently lauded its acoustic properties throughout its history. It has hosted performances by virtually every major orchestral conductor and soloist since its opening.
