Jörg Widmann, a German clarinetist, composer, and conductor, will present a concert at Aberdeen Music Hall on May 13, 2027. Widmann’s compositional style is often described as bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary classical music. He frequently incorporates elements of serialism and atonality while maintaining a clear melodic and structural focus, often displaying a playful and virtuosic character. His works demonstrate a strong interest in exploring instrumental colour and texture. He is recognised for both his performance skill as a clarinetist and increasingly for his complex yet engaging compositions.

Aberdeen Music Hall, opened in 1859 following a public subscription, holds significant cultural importance for the city of Aberdeen and the North-East of Scotland. Designed by Archibald Simpson in the Scottish Baronial style, it has hosted a diverse range of performances throughout its history – from classical concerts and opera to variety shows and political rallies. A major refurbishment completed in 2018 restored many of the hall’s original features including its renowned acoustics and ornate ceiling.
