Remise Wernigerode is a historically significant building originally constructed as a railway depot (“Remise” translates to depot or stable) in the late 19th century. It served as a maintenance facility for locomotives and carriages of the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways. Following the decline of steam locomotion, the building fell into disuse for a period.

Extensive renovations were undertaken in the early 2000s transforming it into a cultural venue. Today, Remise Wernigerode functions as a multi-purpose event space hosting concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions and conferences. The building retains many original architectural features including high vaulted ceilings and exposed brickwork contributing to its unique atmosphere. It is recognized as an important example of industrial heritage adapted for contemporary cultural use within the Harz region.
