Joe Hisaishi is a prominent Japanese composer, arranger, and conductor best known for his long-standing collaborative work with Studio Ghibli, particularly with director Hayao Miyazaki. His musical style blends elements of classical, minimalist, and pop music, often featuring lush orchestral arrangements and memorable melodies. Recurring themes in his compositions include nature, childhood, and human emotion. Beyond Ghibli films like *Spirited Away* and *Princess Mononoke*, Hisaishi has composed scores for numerous live-action films and video games, as well as conducting orchestral performances of his work globally.

The Symphony Hall in Osaka opened in 1982 and is renowned for its exceptional acoustics. Designed by architect Hiroshi Hara, the hall was specifically engineered to provide optimal sound projection and clarity, incorporating a ‘vineyard’ style seating arrangement – a design where the audience surrounds the orchestra on multiple sides. It’s considered one of Japan’s finest concert venues and frequently hosts performances by leading orchestras and soloists from around the world. The hall utilizes a variety of wood types in its construction contributing to its warm sonic character. It underwent significant renovation work in 2020 to further enhance its facilities.
