Joe Hisaishi, born Mamoru Fujisawa, is a prominent Japanese composer, arranger and conductor best known for his long-standing collaborative work with Studio Ghibli animation director Hayao Miyazaki. His musical style blends elements of classical, minimalist, and pop music, often featuring lush orchestral arrangements, memorable melodies, and evocative soundscapes. He frequently incorporates influences from French impressionism and American minimalist composers. Beyond Ghibli films like *Spirited Away* and *My Neighbor Totoro*, Hisaishi has composed for numerous live-action films, television dramas, and concert performances.
The Symphony Hall in Osaka is recognized as one of Japan’s premier concert venues, celebrated for its exceptional acoustics. Opened in 1982, it was designed with significant input from the renowned acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota, aiming to create an ideal environment for orchestral music. The hall's “vineyard” style seating arrangement – where the audience surrounds the orchestra – contributes to its lauded sound quality and intimate atmosphere. It is a key venue for the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, its resident orchestra, and hosts a wide range of international and domestic classical music performances annually.
