Jean-Michel Blais will be performing at Théâtre Granada in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada on February 6, 2027. Blais is a Canadian composer and pianist known for his contemporary classical music, often described as minimalist and emotionally resonant. His compositions frequently incorporate prepared piano techniques – altering the instrument’s sound by placing objects on or between the strings – alongside electronic elements and looping, creating layered and atmospheric soundscapes. Théâtre Granada originally opened in 1928 as a vaudeville house and cinema. Throughout its history it hosted travelling shows, film screenings, and local performances. By the 1980s, it had fallen into disrepair but underwent extensive renovations completed in 2017. The restored theatre now functions as a multi-disciplinary performance venue accommodating concerts, theatre productions, dance performances, and conferences. It maintains much of its original Art Deco architectural detailing while incorporating modern technical capabilities. The theatre's capacity is approximately 500 seats and it is considered a significant cultural landmark within the city of Sherbrooke.
