Jean-Michel Blais is a Canadian composer and pianist known for his contemporary classical music, often described as minimalist and deeply atmospheric. His compositions frequently feature prepared piano – altering the instrument’s sound through the placement of objects on or between the strings – alongside electronic textures and subtle processing. Blais’s work explores themes of memory, vulnerability, and the emotional resonance of sound, drawing comparisons to artists like Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds. He gained wider recognition following his Polaris Music Prize nomination in 2016 for his album *Dense Atlas*.

The concert will be held at Salle Albert-Dumouchel in Valleyfield, Quebec. Originally constructed in 1973, Salle Albert-Dumouchel underwent extensive renovations completed in 2018, modernizing its technical capabilities while preserving its intimate atmosphere. The hall is designed primarily for performing arts events including concerts, theatre productions and conferences; it boasts a seating capacity of approximately 600 people and is recognized for its excellent acoustics.
