Jazz Mafia is scheduled to perform at Sonoma Plaza on September 8, 2026. The group is known for its distinctive blend of jazz instrumentation with elements of funk, hip-hop, and electronic music, often incorporating live improvisation and theatrical performance aspects into their shows. Formed in San Francisco, they’ve cultivated a reputation for energetic and genre-bending arrangements, frequently collaborating with diverse artists.
Sonoma Plaza, historically known as Plaza Park, serves as the central public space for the City of Sonoma. Originally laid out in 1835 by General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo as part of the Pueblo de Sonoma, it represents one of the last eight surviving California plazas from the Mexican period. The plaza’s design reflects Spanish colonial influences and has served continuously as a gathering place for community events, celebrations, and civic functions since its inception. It is surrounded by historic buildings including Mission San Francisco Solano and the Sonoma Barracks. The plaza was designated a California Historical Landmark in 1954 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its open space makes it a common venue for outdoor performances and festivals.
