Sonoma Plaza, historically known as the Plaza de Sonoma, serves as the central public space for the city of Sonoma, California. Originally laid out in 1835 by General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo when Sonoma served as the capital of California, it’s one of the largest town plazas in California – approximately eight acres in size. The plaza is designated as a California Historical Landmark and is surrounded by historic buildings including Mission San Francisco Solano, the last of the 21 California missions established by the Spanish.
