Five Spot Jazz is a historic club located in the East Village of Manhattan, New York City. Originally opened in 1953 by Nick Charloff and Max Gordon, it quickly became a pivotal venue during the burgeoning bebop and hard bop eras. The club is renowned for its intimate atmosphere and its role in fostering collaborations between leading jazz musicians. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, it hosted legendary performances by artists such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, and Bill Evans. While the original club closed in 1971, it was revived in 1989 by Gordon’s son, Max Gordon Jr., continuing its legacy as a dedicated jazz performance space.
