Jack DeJohnette is scheduled to perform at the Ulster Performing Arts Center (UPAC) in Kingston, New York on August 9, 2026. DeJohnette is a highly influential American jazz drummer and composer, known for his work across a broad spectrum of jazz styles – from avant-garde and free jazz to post-bop and fusion. He frequently incorporates elements of world music into his compositions and is recognized for his innovative polyrhythmic approach and textural sensitivity. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with many prominent figures including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and Keith Jarrett.
The Ulster Performing Arts Center occupies the historic 1926 Vaudeville theater building located on Broadway in Kingston. Originally named the Roosevelt Theatre, it hosted vaudeville acts and films during its early years. Following a period of decline, the building was renovated and reopened as UPAC in 1994 through a public-private partnership involving Ulster County and private donations. The venue now serves as a multi-purpose performance space hosting a variety of events including concerts, theatrical productions, dance performances, and film screenings.
