Experience Itzhak Perlman live on May 2nd
Itzhak Perlman will perform at Marian Anderson Hall in Philadelphia on May 2nd, 2027. Perlman is widely regarded as one of the foremost violinists of the 20th and 21st centuries. His playing is characterized by its rich tone, expressive phrasing, and technical brilliance. While rooted in the classical tradition, he has also demonstrated a significant affinity for jazz and klezmer music, occasionally incorporating elements of these genres into his performances and recordings. He frequently performs both standard repertoire and lesser-known works, showcasing a diverse musical curiosity.
Marian Anderson Hall, formerly the Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House, holds substantial historical significance. Originally built in 1908, it was renamed in 1972 to honor Marian Anderson, a celebrated contralto who faced racial discrimination despite her exceptional talent. In 1939, the Daughters of the American Revolution denied Anderson the use of Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. due to her race; First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt resigned from the DAR in protest and arranged for Anderson to perform an open-air concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Easter Sunday, a landmark event in the Civil Rights Movement.
