Experience Itzhak Perlman
Itzhak Perlman is globally recognized as a virtuoso violinist, profoundly impacting classical music since his debut with the New York Philharmonic at age 13 in 1958. Born in Israel in 1945, Perlman overcame childhood polio, learning to play despite physical challenges. He studied at Juilliard with Ivan Galamian and Dorothy DeLay, quickly establishing a reputation for his rich, warm tone and expressive phrasing.
Perlman’s extensive discography includes landmark recordings of the core violin repertoire – Bach’s sonatas and partitas, concertos by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Tchaikovsky – often collaborating with conductors like Leonard Bernstein and Zubin Mehta. Beyond standard repertoire, he championed contemporary composers like George Gershwin (his *Porgy and Bess* arrangements are particularly celebrated) and explored klezmer music.
A recipient of 16 Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Arts (2003), and a Presidential Medal of Freedom (2015), Perlman continues to perform internationally as a soloist and conductor. He’s also dedicated to education through masterclasses and mentorship, inspiring generations of musicians.
