Milton Court is a concert hall specifically designed for acoustic excellence and intimate performances. Opened in 2003, it replaced an earlier music school building on the same site that had served the Guildhall School of Music & Drama since 1931. The current hall boasts a shoebox-shaped design – favoured for its superior sound quality – and seats approximately 608 people.

The Barbican Centre itself is a Grade II listed building, notable as an example of Brutalist architecture completed in 1982. Milton Court’s construction was part of a larger redevelopment project aimed at enhancing the Barbican’s facilities for musical education and performance.
