Il Giardino Armonico, an Italian period instrument ensemble founded in 1989, will perform at Wigmore Hall on July 8th, 2026. The group is renowned for its historically informed interpretations of Baroque and early Classical music, characterized by energetic performances, expressive phrasing, and a focus on uncovering the original dramatic intent of composers. Their approach often involves exploring unconventional interpretations and a vibrant, sometimes theatrical, performance style. They frequently program works by composers such as Vivaldi, Handel, and Bach alongside lesser-known figures from the era.

Wigmore Hall opened in 1901, funded by Charles Jennens, a wealthy Birmingham merchant and music patron. Originally conceived as a private concert hall for intimate performances, it quickly gained recognition for its exceptional acoustics and became a favoured venue for chamber music and recital performances. Unlike larger concert halls, Wigmore Hall maintains a relatively small capacity – approximately 545 seats – fostering a close connection between performers and audience. It has hosted virtually every major classical musician since its inception and remains highly respected internationally as one of the world’s leading centres for chamber music.
