Il Gardellino, a chamber orchestra renowned for its historically informed performance practice, will perform at the Concertgebouw in Bruges, Belgium on March 21, 2027. The ensemble specializes in music of the 17th and 18th centuries, frequently focusing on lesser-known composers alongside established masters like Vivaldi and Handel. Their performances are characterized by a light, agile sound achieved through the use of period instruments and a nuanced understanding of Baroque and early Classical stylistic conventions. Il Gardellino is known for exploring the expressive possibilities within ornamentation and improvisation techniques common during those eras.

The Concertgebouw Bruges opened in 2022 and is a modern concert hall designed by Robbrecht en Daem architecten with acoustic consultancy from Nagata Acoustics. It is built on the site of a former electricity plant and aims to be a significant cultural hub for West Flanders. Unlike many “Concertgebouw” halls which denote older, established venues (like the Concertgebouw Amsterdam), this building represents a new generation of concert spaces prioritizing both acoustic excellence and community engagement.
