hr-Bigband is a German big band radio orchestra, renowned for its diverse repertoire spanning traditional big band swing, modern jazz compositions, and collaborations across various genres including funk, pop, and classical music. The ensemble frequently commissions new works and showcases both established and emerging talents in jazz and related fields. They are associated with the Hessischer Rundfunk (hr), the public broadcasting organization for the state of Hesse.

The concert will take place at the Großer Sendesaal (Large Broadcasting Hall) of Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt. Opened in 1956, it’s architecturally significant as a post-war reconstruction example and designed with specific acoustic considerations for radio broadcasting. Throughout its history, the hall has served not only as a recording studio for hr’s musical ensembles – including hr-Bigband – but also as a prominent concert venue hosting national and international artists across multiple genres. Its acoustics are highly regarded, making it a preferred location for demanding musical performances. The hall underwent extensive renovation and modernization in the early 2010s to further enhance its technical capabilities and audience experience while preserving its original architectural character.
