The hr-Bigband, based in Frankfurt, Germany, is a renowned jazz orchestra affiliated with Hessischer Rundfunk (HR), the public broadcaster of the state of Hesse. Established in 1946 as the “Frankfurter Rundfunk-Tanzorchester,” it evolved into the hr-Bigband in 1974 under the leadership of conductor Heinz Schönberger. Known for its versatile and innovative approach, the band expertly blends traditional big band jazz with contemporary styles including funk, Latin, and modern improvisational elements.

Throughout its illustrious career, the hr-Bigband has collaborated with numerous internationally acclaimed artists such as Michael Brecker, Maria Schneider, and Nils Landgren.
