hr-Bigband is a German big band radio orchestra, renowned for its diverse repertoire spanning traditional big band swing, modern jazz compositions, and collaborations across genres including funk, pop, and classical music. Established in 1969 as the “hr-Jazzorchester”, the ensemble has a long history of working with internationally acclaimed musicians and composers, consistently pushing the boundaries of big band sound. Their performances frequently feature both original arrangements and interpretations of existing works.

The concert will take place at the Alte Oper Frankfurt. Originally built in 1880, the Alte Oper was one of the first independent opera houses in Germany. Heavily damaged during World War II, it lay in ruins for decades before undergoing a meticulous reconstruction completed in 1980. The building is notable for its Italian Renaissance style architecture and exceptional acoustics.

Today, the Alte Oper functions as a multi-purpose performance venue hosting opera, ballet, concerts – including orchestral and contemporary music – and other cultural events. It is considered one of Frankfurt’s most significant architectural landmarks and a prominent center for performing arts within Germany. The venue's main hall is known for its excellent sightlines and intimate atmosphere despite its considerable size.
