Herbie Hancock will perform at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, New Jersey on July 31, 2026. Hancock is a highly influential pianist, composer, and bandleader whose music spans multiple genres. Initially gaining recognition for his work with Miles Davis in the 1960s, he developed a distinctive style incorporating elements of hard bop, modal jazz, and post-bop. Throughout his career, Hancock has been a pioneer in electronic music, particularly funk and jazz fusion, notably with his album *Head Hunters* (1973). He continues to explore improvisation and innovative soundscapes.
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center opened in 1997 as part of Newark’s revitalization efforts. Designed by architect Philip Johnson, it is the largest performing arts center in New Jersey. NJPAC features multiple performance spaces including the Prudential Hall – a large theater suitable for orchestral performances, Broadway shows and concerts – and the Victoria Theater which hosts a wider range of events. The center aims to present diverse artistic programming and serves as a significant cultural hub for the region. It is a non-profit organization supported by private donations and public funding.
