Herbie Hancock is a highly influential pianist, composer, and bandleader whose music spans multiple genres, including post-bop jazz, funk, rock, and electronic music. Beginning his career with Donald Byrd and Miles Davis in the 1960s, Hancock gained prominence for his harmonic sophistication and improvisational skills. He is known for albums like *Head Hunters* (1973), a landmark fusion recording, and *Maiden Voyage* (1965), a cornerstone of modal jazz. Throughout his decades-long career, Hancock has consistently explored new technologies and musical approaches, earning numerous accolades including multiple Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for his score to *Round Midnight*.

The Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at the University of California, Davis opened in 2002. Designed by architect Charles M. Moore, it serves as a premier presenting organization for performing arts events in Northern California. The Center features two primary venues: the Jackson Hall, a proscenium theatre seating approximately 1,857 people; and the Carole Shields Playhouse, a more intimate flexible space.
