Experience Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester live on September 14th
Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (GMJO) will perform at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on September 14, 2026. The orchestra is renowned for its interpretations of late-Romantic and early 20th-century orchestral repertoire, with a particular focus on the works of Gustav Mahler himself, though their programming extends to composers like Bruckner, Shostakovich, and Strauss. Formed in 1992 by Claudio Abbado, the GMJO brings together exceptionally talented young musicians aged 14-18 from across Europe, providing them with a unique intensive orchestral training experience. The ensemble frequently collaborates with leading conductors and soloists internationally.
The Concertgebouw, opened in 1888, is widely considered one of the world’s most acoustically admired concert halls. Its design, by Pierre Cuypers, intentionally prioritised sound quality over visual ornamentation. The rectangular shape and specific dimensions contribute to its warm, resonant acoustics – a result of careful calculations regarding materials and proportions. Throughout its history, the Concertgebouw has been home to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and has hosted performances by virtually every major conductor and instrumentalist of the last century.
