The Dome, officially known as the O2 Arena since 2005 due to sponsorship, is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Greenwich, London. Originally constructed to mark the Millennium celebrations and housed within a large geodesic dome structure designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller (though the current arena is *within* a larger dome built around the original), it opened to the public in 1999. Initially plagued with financial and logistical difficulties leading to periods of closure and varied use – including an attempted exhibition centre – it was reconfigured as an entertainment venue and reopened as The O2 Arena in 2007.
