Experience Fretwork live on October 1st
Fretwork, the acclaimed British viol consort, will perform at Wigmore Hall on October 1st, 2026. The ensemble is renowned for its interpretations of Renaissance and Baroque polyphony, particularly that originally written for viols – instruments closely related to the modern viola but with a softer, more resonant tone. Their repertoire extends beyond strictly historical performance practice, encompassing commissioned works by contemporary composers alongside arrangements and explorations of early music. Fretwork is distinguished by its commitment to historically informed performance combined with a dynamic and expressive approach.
Wigmore Hall holds a significant place in London’s cultural landscape. Opened in 1901, it was built as a private concert hall for the Bechstein piano company and quickly gained recognition for its exceptional acoustics. Unlike many larger venues, Wigmore Hall maintains an intimate atmosphere with a capacity of approximately 544 seats. It has become particularly celebrated as a venue for chamber music, song recitals and solo instrumental performances. Throughout its history, the hall has hosted performances by some of the most prominent musicians internationally and continues to be regarded as one of the world’s leading recital spaces. The hall is noted for its lack of corporate branding and dedication to artistic quality.
