Fretwork, the acclaimed British viol consort, will perform at Wigmore Hall on October 1st, 2026. The ensemble is renowned for its interpretations of Renaissance and Baroque polyphony, particularly that originally written for viols – instruments closely related to the modern viola but with a softer, more resonant tone. Their repertoire extends beyond strictly historical performance practice, encompassing commissioned works by contemporary composers alongside arrangements and explorations of early music. Wigmore Hall holds a significant place in London’s cultural landscape. Opened in 1901, it was built as a private concert hall for the Bechstein piano company and quickly gained recognition for its exceptional acoustics.
