Classical Concerts in Grafenegg

Experience Festival Strings Lucerne live on August 23rd

Festival Strings Lucerne will perform at the Auditorium in Grafenegg, Austria on August 23, 2026. The ensemble is renowned for its interpretations of Classical and early Romantic chamber orchestra repertoire, particularly works by Mozart, Schubert, and Haydn, characterized by a refined sound and historically informed performance practice. Founded in 1956 by Wolfgang Schneiderhan, the orchestra emerged from a masterclass setting and quickly gained international recognition for its distinctive style – a blend of precision, warmth, and expressive phrasing.

The Auditorium Grafenegg, opened in 2007, is an open-air concert hall situated within the grounds of Grafenegg Castle. Designed by architect Gustav Peichl, its defining feature is a large, gently sloping lawn surrounded by a steel and wooden structure forming a shell-like acoustic reflector. This design allows for natural amplification and excellent sound projection while integrating the surrounding landscape into the concert experience. The venue’s acoustics are specifically engineered to enhance orchestral performances without the need for extensive artificial amplification. It has become a significant summer music festival location attracting internationally acclaimed orchestras and soloists. The castle itself dates back to the 12th century and provides a historical backdrop to the modern auditorium.
