Fareed Haque is a highly regarded guitarist and composer known for his distinctive blend of jazz, classical, and world music traditions, particularly those of his Indian heritage. His work frequently incorporates elements of Hindustani classical music, utilizing instruments and techniques from both Western and Eastern musical systems. He’s recognized for his virtuosic playing on both the traditional guitar and the fretless guitar, exploring complex rhythmic patterns and improvisational structures. Haque has released numerous albums as a leader and collaborator, and is also an educator, holding a faculty position at Northern Illinois University.
The Harris Theater For Music And Dance, located in Chicago’s Millennium Park, opened in 2003. Designed by architects Jeanne Gang and Ralph Johnson of Studio Gang, the venue was conceived to address a need for a flexible performance space catering to a diverse range of artistic disciplines. Unlike many theaters dedicated to a single genre, the Harris Theater hosts presentations from dance companies, theater ensembles, orchestras, and musical artists spanning multiple styles. It’s notable for its proscenium stage configuration alongside adaptable seating arrangements allowing for configurations ranging from approximately 1,525 to 2,000 seats.
