Experience Erich Wolfgang Korngold live on August 28th

On August 28, 2026, a concert dedicated to the works of Erich Wolfgang Korngold will be held at De Stiftskerk in Weerselo, Netherlands. Korngold (1897-1957) was an Austrian-American composer known for his lush, late-Romantic musical style heavily influenced by composers like Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler. He transitioned successfully between composing operas and film scores, becoming one of Hollywood’s most prominent composers during the Golden Age. His music is characterized by sweeping melodies, rich harmonies, and dramatic orchestration, often displaying a strong sense of emotional narrative. While initially celebrated for his operas *Violanta* and *Die tote Stadt*, he achieved widespread recognition for his film scores including *The Adventures of Robin Hood* and *King’s Row*.

De Stiftskerk is a neo-Gothic church constructed between 1937 and 1938, designed by architect A.J.N. van den Berg. It stands on the site of a former medieval chapel associated with the Stift Weerselo monastery, which dates back to the 13th century.
