Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897–1957) was an Austrian-American composer renowned for his pioneering contributions to both classical music and Hollywood film scores. A child prodigy, Korngold composed his first opera at age 12 and quickly gained acclaim in Europe for his late-Romantic orchestral works, operas, and chamber music. His lush, expressive style is characterized by rich harmonies, sweeping melodies, and intricate orchestration, reflecting the influence of composers like Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler.

In the 1930s, Korngold emigrated to the United States to escape the rise of Nazism.
