His playing is rooted in the styles of masters like Nat Adderley and Thelonious Monk, but incorporates a modern sensibility and strong melodic focus. Cohen frequently leads the “Emmet Cohen Trio,” known for its energetic performances and collaborative spirit, often featuring rotating lineups of highly regarded jazz musicians. He also curates the popular “Changeover” series at New York’s Village Vanguard.

Birdland Marina is an outdoor performance space affiliated with the historic Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. Established in 2022, it provides a seasonal venue extending Birdland’s programming during warmer months. Located on West 44th Street, the Marina utilizes a retractable glass roof allowing for performances regardless of weather conditions. The original Birdland Jazz Club, opened in 1949, quickly became legendary as a premier destination for jazz artists including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. While the original club closed in 1965, it was revived in 1986 and continues to operate as a significant New York City jazz institution.
