Experience Elizabeth Kenny live on September 30th
Elizabeth Kenny will perform at St John’s Smith Square, London, on September 30, 2026. Kenny is a contemporary classical composer known for her evocative and often minimalist works, frequently incorporating extended vocal techniques and exploring themes of landscape, memory, and the natural world. Her compositions often blend choral and instrumental elements, creating richly textured soundscapes. She has received commissions from prominent ensembles and institutions internationally.
St John’s Smith Square holds a significant place in London’s musical history. Originally built as a parish church in the early 18th century (completed 1728) by Thomas Archer, it fell into disrepair during the 20th century. A substantial restoration project in the 1950s, spearheaded by Leonard Rees, transformed it into a renowned concert hall while preserving its architectural integrity. The hall is celebrated for its exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere, making it a favoured venue for chamber music, choral performances, and recitals. It is particularly noted for its Harrison & Harrison organ – one of the finest in Britain – which frequently features in performances. The building continues to function as a parish church alongside its role as a concert venue.
