Django Festival Allstars performs gypsy jazz, a style originating from the work of Belgian-born guitarist Django Reinhardt. Their music is characterized by virtuosic guitar playing, often featuring rapid chord changes, improvisation, and a distinctive “hot” swing feel. The ensemble carries on the tradition of the Quintette du Hot Club de France, Reinhardt’s original group, interpreting both classic compositions and original material within this genre.
Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been a prominent venue for jazz and related musical genres since its establishment in 1985. Originally founded by Jim Hogren, it quickly became known for hosting both internationally renowned artists and local talent. The club's intimate setting – seating approximately 300 people – contributes to a close connection between performers and audience members. Dakota underwent a significant relocation and renovation in 2017, moving from its original location on Nicollet Mall to a larger space near the Mississippi River. The venue consistently receives recognition as one of the leading jazz clubs in the United States, frequently appearing on "best of" lists nationally. It operates as both a performance space and a full-service restaurant.
