Experience Detroit Symphony Orchestra live on April 29th
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will perform at Orchestra Hall in Detroit, Michigan on April 29, 2027. The DSO is renowned for its versatile repertoire, encompassing standard orchestral works from the Baroque period through contemporary compositions. Historically, the orchestra has cultivated a strong commitment to both preserving classical traditions and championing new music, frequently commissioning works from living composers. Its sound is often described as possessing both power and refinement, reflecting a dedication to technical precision alongside expressive interpretation.
Orchestra Hall, completed in 1919 and originally known as the Detroit Theatre, underwent significant renovation and reopened as the permanent home of the DSO in 1989. Designed by architect C. Howard Crane, the building initially served as a multi-purpose venue hosting vaudeville acts and film screenings before its transformation into a dedicated concert hall. The hall’s acoustics were substantially improved during the 1989 restoration led by acoustician Russell Johnson, aiming to create an optimal listening experience for both performers and audience members. It is recognized for its ornate interior featuring a blend of Italian Renaissance and French Baroque architectural styles. The venue currently holds approximately 2,200 seats.
