Derrick Morgan is scheduled to perform at City Halls, Glasgow on January 22, 2027. Morgan is a foundational figure in ska and rocksteady music, emerging in Jamaica during the late 1950s and early 1960s. His musical style blends elements of American rhythm and blues with traditional Jamaican mento, evolving through ska’s upbeat tempos and into the smoother grooves of rocksteady. Notable songs include “Forward March,” “Tougher Than Tough,” and “Moon Hop,” contributing significantly to the development of Jamaican popular music and influencing subsequent genres like reggae. He is recognised for his distinctive vocal delivery and prolific output throughout the 1960s and beyond.
City Halls, located in Glasgow city centre, opened in 1910 as part of a municipal complex including the adjacent Sheriff Court. Designed by William Binnie Simpson, it's a prominent example of Edwardian Baroque architecture. Originally intended for public meetings and civic functions, City Halls quickly became a significant concert venue due to its excellent acoustics and large capacity. Throughout its history, it has hosted a diverse range of performances, from orchestral concerts to contemporary music acts.
