David Byrne will perform at the Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City on September 5, 2026. The Teatro Metropólitan is a significant historical venue in Mexico City, originally constructed in 1901 as the Gran Teatro Nacional. Initially designed for opera and zarzuela performances, it underwent several transformations including a period as a cinema before falling into disrepair. It was meticulously restored and reopened in 1991, regaining its status as a premier performance space. The theatre is known for its ornate interior, featuring a blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco architectural styles. It currently hosts a wide range of events including concerts by international artists, theatrical productions, dance performances and conferences; seating approximately 3,500 people. The venue’s acoustics are generally considered excellent for amplified music.
