Cortex is scheduled to perform at the Vic Theatre in Chicago, Illinois on September 26, 2026. Cortex creates music generally categorized as vaporwave and future funk, often incorporating elements of smooth jazz, city pop, and disco. Their sound is characterized by slowed-down samples, nostalgic aesthetics referencing 80s and 90s media, and a focus on atmospheric textures. The project began as an anonymous online entity gaining prominence through releases on Bandcamp before evolving into a recognized musical act.

The Vic Theatre originally opened in 1926 as a single-screen movie palace designed in the Spanish Baroque architectural style. Located in the Lake View neighborhood of Chicago, it operated primarily as a cinema for several decades. In 1985, it was renovated and reopened as a live music venue while retaining much of its original ornate interior design including its detailed plasterwork and balcony seating. The venue has since hosted a diverse range of performers across various genres and is known for its intimate setting and excellent acoustics. It maintains its historical character while functioning as a contemporary performance space with a capacity of approximately 1,500 people.
