Concerto Italiano, an ensemble renowned for its historically informed performance practice of 17th and 18th-century Italian music, will perform at Palais Montcalm in Quebec City on May 9, 2027. The group, founded by Rinaldo Alessandrini in 1987, specializes in rediscovering and performing lesser-known works alongside those of established composers like Vivaldi and Scarlatti. Their approach emphasizes stylistic authenticity through research into performance techniques prevalent during the Baroque period, utilizing instruments and tuning systems reflective of the era. They are particularly known for their interpretations of vocal and instrumental chamber music.

Palais Montcalm opened in 1912 as the Grand Théâtre de Québec, initially serving as a vaudeville house and cinema. Throughout its history, it has hosted a diverse range of performances including opera, ballet, theatre, and concerts. The building underwent significant renovations in 1996 which modernized facilities while preserving its architectural heritage – a blend of Beaux-Arts and Edwardian styles. It is currently a major performing arts venue in Quebec City, functioning as part of the larger cultural complex encompassing the Agora portuaire de Québec.
