Chanticleer, an ensemble widely recognized for its mastery of a cappella vocal music, will perform at St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco on December 20, 2026. The group is celebrated for its precise intonation, blending, and innovative programming, spanning repertoire from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary compositions and jazz arrangements. Often described as “an orchestra of voices,” Chanticleer frequently commissions new works and explores diverse musical traditions.

St. Ignatius Church holds significant historical and architectural importance within San Francisco. Completed in 1914, the church is a prominent example of Beaux-Arts architecture, designed by architects Shea & Carlile. Its interior features elaborate mosaics, stained glass windows, and a large dome – elements intended to evoke the grandeur of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The church serves as a parish church for the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and is part of the larger St. Ignatius College Preparatory campus. Throughout its history, St. Ignatius has been a focal point for religious services and community events, alongside hosting numerous cultural performances due to its exceptional acoustics.
