Experience Chanticleer live on March 13th
Chanticleer, an ensemble widely recognized for its precise vocal blend, expressive performances, and adventurous programming, will perform at Mission Dolores Basilica in San Francisco on March 13, 2027. The group typically presents a repertoire spanning from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary compositions, often including jazz standards and popular music arrangements alongside sacred works. Their sound is characterized by a pure, unamplified vocal texture achieved through a unique all-male vocal configuration – typically tenors and basses.
Mission Dolores Basilica, completed in 1918, stands as the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco. Originally established in 1776 as Mission San Francisco de Asís by Franciscan missionaries, it represents a significant period of Spanish colonial history in California. The current basilica incorporates elements of several architectural styles including Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival. Its interior features extensive murals painted by Italian artists between 1960 and 1968, depicting scenes from the life of Saint Francis of Assisi and the history of the mission. The basilica continues to function as an active Catholic parish while also serving as a historical landmark and cultural center within the city.
