Experience Chanticleer live on December 10th
Chanticleer, an ensemble renowned for its vibrant and virtuosic vocal performances, will present a concert at Memorial Church on the Stanford University campus on December 10, 2026. The group is celebrated for its repertoire spanning Renaissance polyphony, jazz, and contemporary compositions, often characterized by imaginative programming and a blend of musical styles. Founded in 1978 as an a cappella sextet based at the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, Chanticleer has grown in prominence as one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles.
Memorial Church itself holds significant historical and architectural importance. Constructed between 1903 and 1908, it was conceived as a central spiritual focus for Stanford University, though intentionally designed to be interdenominational rather than specifically affiliated with one religion. The building’s design draws heavily from Romanesque and Byzantine influences, notably featuring a mosaic-covered nave and a prominent bell tower – the tallest structure on campus. The mosaics within depict biblical scenes and figures representing various faiths and intellectual pursuits. The church regularly hosts concerts utilizing its exceptional acoustics and serves as a venue for university ceremonies and events.
