Experience Chamber Orchestra of Europe live on May 17th
The Chamber Orchestra of Europe will perform at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva, Switzerland on May 17, 2027. This renowned orchestra is celebrated for its historically informed performances and flexibility, frequently collaborating with leading soloists across a broad repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary music. While not adhering to a rigidly defined “style,” the COE is known for clarity of texture, refined phrasing, and a commitment to illuminating the composer’s intent through meticulous research and adaptable instrumentation. The orchestra operates democratically, without a permanent conductor, fostering a uniquely collaborative musical environment.
The Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (BFM), originally constructed in 1910-1911, initially served as Geneva’s municipal power station, converting hydraulic energy from the Rhône River into electricity. It ceased functioning as a power plant in 1963. Subsequently repurposed, it became a significant cultural venue hosting diverse events including concerts, exhibitions and conferences. The building's industrial architecture – characterized by exposed brickwork, large arched windows and high ceilings – contributes to its distinctive acoustic properties and atmosphere. Restoration work has preserved many of its original features while adapting it for modern performance requirements.
