Cappella Istropolitana is a Slovakian chamber orchestra renowned for its interpretations of Classical and early Romantic period repertoire, with a particular focus on the Viennese School – Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. Established in 1947 as the Slovak State Chamber Orchestra, it gained international recognition through extensive recordings, notably for Naxos Records, establishing a reputation for polished performances and historically informed practice. The ensemble frequently performs works alongside vocal soloists and choirs.
The concert will take place at the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria. Completed in 1870, the Musikverein is famed as the home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and widely considered one of the world’s most prestigious concert halls. Its exceptional acoustics are largely attributed to its vineyard-style seating arrangement and wooden interior construction; lacking reverberation chambers common in other halls, sound reflects naturally off surfaces creating clarity and warmth.
Historically, the Musikverein was built by a society of music enthusiasts rather than under state patronage – a unique origin for such an important institution. It has hosted countless significant musical events and remains central to Vienna’s cultural identity.
