Cantoría will perform at Muziekgebouw Amsterdam on December 19, 2026. Cantoría is a vocal ensemble specializing in Sephardic music, drawing from the rich tradition of Ladino songs – those originating with Jews expelled from Spain in 1492. Their performances often blend historical research with contemporary arrangements, featuring intricate vocal harmonies and instrumentation incorporating instruments historically associated with the Sephardic diaspora, such as the oud, kanun, and percussion. The group is known for its emotive interpretations and dedication to preserving this cultural heritage.

Muziekgebouw Amsterdam opened in 2005 as part of a larger cultural complex including the Bimhuis jazz club and the Stopera opera house. Designed by architect Wilhelm Holzbauer, it’s specifically engineered for acoustic performance, prioritizing sound quality for a variety of musical genres. Unlike traditional concert halls with a single large space, Muziekgebouw features several halls of varying sizes – the Grote Zaal (Main Hall) being the largest – allowing for intimate recitals and large-scale orchestral performances alike.
