Cantoría, the artistic alias of Uruguayan musician and producer Sebastián Tezada, is a pioneering figure in the burgeoning “folktronica” and “global bass” scenes. Emerging in the early 2010s, Cantoría blends traditional Latin American folklore – particularly candombe, murga, and milonga – with electronic music production techniques like sampling, glitch, and IDM.

Initially gaining recognition through remixes of artists like Nicola Cruz and Dengue Dengue Dengue!, Tezada solidified his unique sound with releases on labels including ZZK Records and his own imprint, Laptra Records (co-founded with Chancha Vía Circuito). His albums *Guarida* (2016) and *Salvaje* (2018) garnered critical acclaim for their innovative fusion and atmospheric depth.

Cantoría’s work isn't simply a pastiche; he meticulously deconstructs and recontextualizes ancestral rhythms and melodies, creating a distinctly modern yet deeply rooted sonic landscape. He frequently collaborates with vocalists preserving indigenous languages and traditions. Performances are known for their immersive visuals and energetic live looping.
