Bruce Liu, the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition laureate, is scheduled to perform at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Germany on January 21, 2027. Liu is recognized for his deeply expressive and technically brilliant interpretations of Romantic piano repertoire, particularly that of Chopin. The Alte Oper Frankfurt (Old Opera) holds a significant place in German cultural history. Originally opened in 1880, it quickly became one of Europe’s most modern opera houses. Heavily damaged during Allied bombing raids in World War II, it lay in ruins for decades. A lengthy and controversial reconstruction project was completed in 1981, restoring the building to its former glory while incorporating modern architectural elements. Today, the Alte Oper functions as a multi-purpose venue hosting opera, ballet, concerts – including orchestral and chamber music – and other performing arts events.
