The Perelman Theater, located within the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, opened in 2003. Designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects, it’s a versatile performance space known for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting – seating approximately 650 people. The theater hosts a variety of performances including opera, dance, theater and musical concerts. It is named in honor of Raymond G. and Audrey S. Perelman, whose significant philanthropic contributions supported its construction. Prior to the Kimmel Center's construction, the site housed the historic Erlanger Theatre which was demolished in 2001; however, aspects of the Erlanger’s façade were incorporated into the Kimmel Center complex’s design as a nod to Philadelphia’s theatrical history.
