Benny Green is a highly regarded jazz pianist, composer, and arranger known for his virtuosic technique and deep understanding of the hard bop and post-bop traditions. His playing is characterized by a swinging rhythmic feel, sophisticated harmonic vocabulary, and a strong melodic sense, drawing influence from artists like Art Tatum, Bud Powell, and Oscar Peterson. He has released numerous albums as a leader and sideman, collaborating with prominent figures such as Betty Carter, Ray Brown, and Diana Krall.

The Pocket is a relatively new jazz club located in New York City’s Greenwich Village, opening in late 2022. Situated on Cornelia Street, it quickly established itself as a listening room prioritizing acoustic sound and intimate performances. The venue’s design focuses on providing optimal audibility for both performers and audience members; it features a custom-built sound system designed specifically for unamplified jazz. Unlike larger venues, The Pocket deliberately maintains a small capacity – around 120 seats – fostering a close connection between artist and listener. It has rapidly become known for hosting both established jazz masters and emerging talent, emphasizing straight-ahead jazz while also showcasing diverse styles within the genre.
